WELCOME BACK?!?!
It has been..... a year. Well in this case, 3 years.
It's hard to remember, but just 4 years ago our country was in a much, much different place. The entire world had basically shut down.
The year 2020 was an indescribable year. And it was also a hard year for us here at MOCHA.
We could not think about work. It just didn't feel right with everything that was going on in the world. So with that, we decided to put the magazine on hold for the time being.
But living through a pandemic has taught us that there is much we took for granted - and much we thought was important, which .... wasn't.
And now? While we can't exactly say things are back to normal but this summer has been our first "normal" summer since the whole pandemic started. And after a 2 year long hiatus, we have decide to bring the magazine back. So welcome to the new, new, new normal.
And Welcome back to MOCHA Magazine.

As you read through the magazine, you will notice that our content has changed. Gearing more towards tweens/teens now. The girls on our cover are the same girls from our first ever cover that was launched in 2017. It was only right that we recreated that iconic cover with our 3 original mocha girls - Legend, Lyris & Leilani. It's crazy to see how much they have grown and how much the magazine has grown as well.
To think back to when we first launched in 2017, our goal here at MOCHA was to creatively display and celebrating kids of color in fashion, art and beauty. And we'll keep doing this as long as kids of color need a safe, supportive space to get the credible information and amazing inspiration they need to be the best version of the person they want to be. And as long as they want a place that allows them to dream bigger, feel authentic and celebrat-ed.
And, yes, we'll keep creating amazing editorials but we will also shine a light on real kids who have overcome challenges and pursued their passions.
It's been a privilege to be able to work with so many talented individuals who photograph, model, style, and simply show up and get done whatever needs to get done to bring our visions to life.
The final question everyone always asks: What's MOCHA going to be like in the future? I can't say I have the answer to that one, but what I can promise you is that we are going to continue to advocate and celebrate every MOCHA girl and boy out there because everyone deserves to see a version of themselves. It is important to showcase the different types of people they are, and how their differences are absolutely beautiful. Representation matters because we are all unique. Representation matters because every identity matters.
So with that being said, WELCOME BACK and ENJOY!!
